Delusions among the beltway scribes

Everyone knows that Sarah Huckabee Sanders lies incessantly to the White House correspondents. This is like saying the sun rises in the east. But when the comedic guest at the White House correspondents dinner told jokes to the effect that Sarah Huckabee Sanders lies incessantly to the White House correspondents, this was the response from “journalists”:

We are so screwed. You decide if it was too much:

Only the best people

Where do we begin?

WASHINGTON — Dr. Ronny L. Jackson, the White House physician nominated to lead the Veterans Affairs Department, provided such “a large supply” of Percocet, a prescription opioid, to a White House Military Office staff member that he threw his own medical staff “into a panic” when it could not account for the missing drugs, according to a summary of questionable deeds compiled by the Democratic staff of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

A nurse on his staff said Dr. Jackson had written himself prescriptions, and when caught, he simply asked a physician assistant to provide him with the medication.

And at a Secret Service going away party, the doctor got intoxicated and “wrecked a government vehicle,” according to the summary.

The two-page document, distributed by committee Democrats, fleshes out three categories of accusations — prescription drug misuse, hostile work environment and drunkenness — that threaten to derail President Trump’s nominee. Committee staff members say the summary details the testimony of 23 current and former colleagues of Dr. Jackson, many of whom are still in the military.

I know this is what we’ve come to expect from the administration of Spanky McPornfucker, but really, does his personnel office have the faintest clue on how to vet nominees?

An obscure White House office responsible for recruiting and vetting thousands of political appointees has suffered from inexperience and a shortage of staff, hobbling the Trump administration’s efforts to place qualified people in key posts across government, documents and interviews show.

At the same time, two office leaders have spotty records themselves: a college dropout with arrests for drunken driving and bad checks and a Marine Corps reservist with arrests for assault, disorderly conduct, fleeing an officer and underage drinking.

The Presidential Personnel Office (PPO) is little known outside political circles. But it has far-reaching influence as a gateway for the appointed officials who carry out the president’s policies and run federal agencies.

Under President Trump, the office was launched with far fewer people than in prior administrations. It has served as a refuge for young campaign workers, a stopover for senior officials on their way to other posts and a source of jobs for friends and family, a Washington Post investigation found. One senior staffer has had four relatives receive appointments through the office.

Why the hell do I even ask?

Mental illness and terrorism

The leaders of the NRA terrorist group have a saying. You know it. It’s a lie, as this cartoon proves:

Because this happened:

James Shaw Jr. single-handedly wrestled an AR-15 from a man at a Waffle House who had just gone on a shooting rampage in Antioch, Tenn., early Sunday, killing four people.

Shaw said he didn’t consider it heroic when he rushed at the man, took his gun and pushed him out of the restaurant. Shaw was getting breakfast with a friend at the time.

“I’m not a hero. I’m just a regular person, and I think anybody could have did what I did if they are just pushed into that kind of cage,” he said, growing emotional, at a news conference Sunday. “You have to either react or you’re going to fold, and I chose to react because I didn’t see any other way of living, and that’s all I wanted to do. I just wanted to live.”

So this takes care of one lie on the right. Here’s the other lie:

THERE WERE plenty of warning signs about Travis J. Reinking. He once told police that music superstar Taylor Swift was stalking him and hacking into his phone. Another time, he barged into a community pool, jumping into the water wearing a woman’s pink housecoat and challenging lifeguards to a fight. Then there was his arrest by the Secret Service for breaching White House security because he wanted to meet with the president.

Yet there he allegedly was early Sunday morning — just nine months after his White House arrest — at a Waffle House outside Nashville, in possession of an assault-style rifle that authorities say was used to kill four people and wound several others.

This is the typical “white guy is mentally disturbed” mass killer explanation. But look at the names of the people he killed:

Joe R. Perez, 20

DeEbony Groves, 21

Taurean C. Sanderlin, 29

Akilah Dasilva, 23

This is a racially motivated shooting. If Travis J. Reinking has Muhammad as his first name and the victims’ list consisted of Janet, Chrissie, Jack and Mr. Roper,  the pussygrabbing Orange Utan would be rearing himself up on his haunches and screaming “TERRORIST, TERRORIST, TERRORIST” to appease his inbred base. But he doesn’t make a sound. Reinking is a right wing gun nut terrorist, encouraged and motivated by the NRA.

Don’t pretend it’s just a mental health issue.

And while we’re talking about mentally disturbed white guys, here’s the latest from Toronto:

The Globe and Mail spoke to three of Alek Minassian’s former classmates who described him as being socially awkward, believing he may have suffered from a social or mental disability.

Minassian kept mostly to himself at school, and seemed to constantly rub his head or hands – a sign of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), they added.

Other classmates suggested he had never exhibited any indication of possessing extremist views or violent tendencies and was described by one couple as being “friendly”.

One student said Minassian did not interact particularly well with other students, but would not describe him as a loner.

And this:

At a news conference Tuesday, Detective Sgt. Graham Gibson said that “the accused is alleged to have posted a cryptic message on Facebook” minutes before he began his attack. The Facebook post referred to a misogynistic online subculture for “involuntarily celibate” men.

If you want to say he’s crazy, fine. But the last paragraph indicates a hatred of women. If he acted out of hatred for women, he’s a terrorist.

The terrorist label in the American media seems to be reserved for brown people. The mentally disturbed label is usually applied to whites. Either call everyone involved in mass murder a terrorist or call them mentally disturbed. Don’t stereotype groups because it serves a political purpose.
